Ikat Rebozo Woven on Treadle Loom

SKU: REB-MXTN1
C$280.00Price

Ikat weaving involves a complex and very time consuming dying technique for using negative space.to create patterns.  The threads are gathered in long cords and tied with strings, then submerged in the dyes.  Once the ties are removed from the cord, the colour beneath the string is exposed, while the other segments that were not covered can absorb the colours.  Once the dyes are all set and threads are dry, the loom is strung and the weaving can begin.

This technique is employed by the expert rebozo weavers of Tenancingo in Mexico State.

This piece has a lovely pattern of colours and an exquisitely tied fringe that makes excellent use of the colour selection!
