These colorful treasures are hand-crocheted in the highland villages of Todos Santos Cuchumatán, Aguacatan and Santa Maria Nebaj. Sturdy and beautiful, these purses were first created for practical use by men, then later produced for the market. The original bags were only two colours, but over time have evolved into multi-coloured pieces featuring interpretations of iconic cosmic motifs of the ancient Maya.
