Back-strap Woven Purse
This lovely little purse was woven on a backstrap loom in the highlands of Chiapas. Woven from cotton and secured with a zipper, these small purses are perfect for making sure you don't end up carrying everyone else's belongings for them!
The pattern on this piece symbolizes the night sky and the moon. The space between the diamonds represents the universe, whereas the centre of the diamond is the moon. The lines that adorn the outer diamond represent the stars. This pattern is one of the most significant and famous of the pre-Hispanic lintels found in ancient Maya cities.
